Introduction
In a Global economy, moving goods around the world can be a risky business. Organizations and individuals need to protect their cargo in order to remain in business. A directive by the Kenyan Government compelling local importers to obtain insurance locally in compliance with section 20 of the Insurance Act, has presented a unique opportunity for insurance industry players. Kenyan businesses that have been importing goods were rarely thinking about purchasing marine cargo insurance policies locally. It is anticipated that this class of insurance business will grow as the directive and implementation of the law takes effect. Many underwriters are now designing products and putting them on offer to potential and existing customers.
