Training Approaches and Methodology
Course Outline
Module I: Introduction to ETL & Qlik Talend Studio
• Overview of ETL concepts and Talend’s role in data management
• Talend Studio setup, navigation, and basic project creation
• Understanding Talend components, metadata, and repository
Hands-on exercise: Create a basic Talend project and build a simple ETL job to extract data from a flat file and preview results
Module II: Data Extraction Techniques & Source Connectivity
• Extracting data from files (CSV, JSON, XML) and databases (SQL, NoSQL)
• Connecting to varied data sources and managing metadata
• Handling scheduling triggers and basic input configurations
Practical exercise: Configure connections to multiple data sources and extract datasets into Talend for processing
Module III: Data Transformation & Workflow Design
• Hands-on transformations with key Talend components (e.g., tMap, tJoin, filters)
• Designing reusable jobs and sub-jobs
• Conditional processing and data mapping best practices
Case study: Design a transformation workflow using Talend components to cleanse, map, and enrich extracted data
Module IV: Loading, Data Quality & Governance
• Loading transformed data into target systems (warehouses, lakes)
• Incorporating data quality checks, error handling, and logging
• Data governance essentials for consistent and compliant ETL pipelines
Hands-on exercise: Load transformed data into a target database while applying data quality checks and error handling
Module V: ETL Performance, Integration & Real-World Implementation
• Optimizing ETL workflows for performance and efficiency
• Integrating Talend with external tools/platforms (cloud, BI, orchestration)
Capstone project: Build, optimize, and present a complete end-to-end ETL pipeline.
This instructor-led training course is delivered using a blended learning approach comprising presentations, guided practical sessions, web-based tutorials, and group work.
